# Signers (authors)

Every article has a named signing person. The CLI calls these people authors.

## Find the signing person

Author records belong to the active company. List them to obtain an id before assigning an article. `author` is an alias for `authors`.

```
recala authors list
```

An owner can add a real person with the name and profile information that person supplied. An agent must not invent a person, bio, expertise or photo.

## Assign the author to an article

Use the article id and the selected author’s id from their list commands. Replace the placeholders before running:

```
recala article person <article-id> --person <author-id>
```

```
recala article status <article-id>
```

Assignment and approval are separate steps. Assignment alone does not sign or publish the draft.

## Approval records both signer and actor

Approval signs in the named author’s name and records who performed the action. The signing person must have agreed to the content. A publish key is restricted to the people named when it was created. Automatic approval uses the configured active signing person and owner consent.

Follow [Review an article](https://recala.co/developers/guides/review/) for manual approval or read [Calendar and autopilot](https://recala.co/developers/calendar/) for automatic approval.
